Garmin HRM-Pro Plus (updated)

(It wasn't obvious how to change my original review, so I'm posting another one).
I believe I've figured out the problem with this new HRM strap giving bad readings. For some reason, this HRM strap connected both as a HRM strap AND as a "Foot Pad". Even though I don't own a foot pad. Once I turned off the Foot Pad in the "Sensors and Accessories" menu, this HRM strap started responding exactly as it should.
Something weird to be aware of.
Since I just got this a few weeks ago, I still do not have an opinion on the new battery change mechanism, and whether it is truly better than the previous versions of the Garmin HRM strap.

Garmin HRM-Pro Plus

Bought this to replace a Garmin HRM-Pro, which had died after the second time I replaced the battery (which is a common problem with the previous Garmin straps -- although I did successfully replace the battery once in the HRM-Pro, but replacing it a second time did it in).
Only three stars because so far this new HRM-Pro Plus seems much more finicky than any previous straps I've had (and I go back to the Garmin Tri strap). So it connects to my watch instantly, which is nice. But it is finicky in that the heart is not as stable as any previous straps I've had. Specifically, this HRM-Pro plus strap is prone to either sudden dropouts or sudden spikes. For example, I'll be doing a steady state run, heart at 140/150, and for 45 seconds the rate drops to 70-90 and recovers right back to the 140/150. On the other side, again I'll be doing that same 140/150 and suddenly for 30 seconds it will jump to 170-180 and then go back. And I know it's not my body doing this for several reasons -- I have a treadmill with a hand held sensor that, in the past has always been within 3 beats of the strap, and when I see those spikes either up or down, the treadmill keeps showing that same steady state heart rate. I've also manually checked my pulse, and no, my heart rate certainly does not crater from 140/150 to 70-90; it stays right at the 140/150.
So on average, this new HRM-Pro Plus strap seems OK, but it's annoying that it is not as stable as any previous straps I've had and that it jumps around on occasion.
